In addition to typewriter restoration, we also specialize in the sale of vintage typewriters.
Our showroom is divided into eight categories with typewriters from the turn of the century until the 1980s. Each category has its own unique aesthetic, feel, and function. For anyone who wants to purchase a typewriter, we recommend spending the time typing on a variety of machines. Choosing a typewriter is a very personal process and every machine has a different feel. At your appointment, we'll work with you one-on-one to test out machines and find the perfect typewriter for you.
Our showroom is always fully stocked with anywhere from 20 to 40 typewriters for you to try. Plenty of paper is always on hand as well as a wealth of experience from our dedicated staff. All our refurbished typewriters come with our benchmark 2-year warranty and complimentary tune-up service after 12 months.
When you find the perfect typewriter for you and purchase it, we'll begin our top-to bottom restoration process. We'll disassemble the typewriter, conduct a deep clean, perform any necessary repairs, oil and calibrate all of the internal mechanisms, install new rubber, and then put the machine through a series of rigorous tests to ensure that it is up to manufacturer specifications. This process takes about 12 weeks. To learn more about the work we perform on our typewriters for sale, check out our Restoration page.
Once restored, our typewriters are ready for daily, continued use. Through a combination of historical and mechanical expertise, we're able to bring these typewriters back to life and keep them singing for years to come. The final result is a typewriter that will perform like it did when it rolled off the factory line, resurrected just for you.
We also have typewriters available to rent for all your event requirements. Elegant machines for your wedding or special occasion as well as period pieces from any era for TV and movie shoots. Call us or email us for more details.

Philly Typewriter's Founder, Bryan Kravitz, got his start in the typewriter industry in the year of 1975, running in and out of different office buildings to service those big machines. He opened his first shop, "You're My Type," in Berkeley California, which serviced machines until 1990. A typewriter book, a marketing career, a window shop, and many, many typewriters later, Bryan found his way back into the brick-and-mortar world on Black Friday of 2017, introducing Philly Typewriter to the world. We have been working ever since to introduce this beautifully preserved and reinvigorated world of typewriters to the community of Philadelphia, as well as communities beyond. Making the typewriter, which was once seen as an ancient relic upon the introduction of the computer, part of modern society and giving it a place in our everyday lives is what continues to drive us forward today.
